Coffee, Bacon, and Cigarettes by JMA

Breakfast at eleven
Sitting in my smoke filled heaven
Coffee in my left
Paper in my right
Trying to keep my mind off of this hangover I got last night
Forget my watch
The sun tells me when to go
Only today I might be a bit slow
Eyes shealded by shades
Short stubble needs a shave
I'm the first to see them come, the first to see them go
Work or school
Scholar or fool
The reminder of the natural world is this half grapefruit
To passers by I'm no more than deaf, blind and mute
The ashtray is clean when I arrive
But there are now buttsfour or five
A buck sixteen for coffee, buck fifty for a side of bacon
Images of last nightwho was that girl? How much money had she taken?
She must have let herself out and thank God my wallet's still here
She had some straight Wild Turkey on Ice and maybe some beer
But that's all behind me now
Today is for recoveryand how?
With coffee, bacon and cigarettes
