Fred Phelps Hates America
By JMcQ and Susan McQ

I don’t really know why I’m giving Fred Phelps even the time of day, but the average bile that ey spews on godhatesfags and godhatesamerica.com is dangerous enough to bring to light. This is not your average right-wing nutjob; this is an individual who is essentially calling for a revolution that may or may not be armed. Fred is an individual who rejoices in human suffering – on godhatesfags.com, ey has memories of hatred created for Matthew Shepherd and Jim Wheeler (committed suicide after being taunted and humiliated by the student body at eir Lebanon, PA high school). Even more so, the vitriolic comments written in a series of “Messages to the Nation” shows a lack of human decency – “The Rod of God hath smitten fag America” in the picture above.

Idealism is one thing, but when one continually is just wrong about certain facts is the line I just have to stop at. Bush did say “Our nation saw evil” in eir statement immediately following the 9-11 attack, but that is pretty much the limit of truth in this outright lie. “Rumsfeld’s Rumprangers” never existed in any form, and with no evidence at all even to be found online, the name although funny, is just outright libel.

Even more absurd is that “Thousands of Americans lie dead – killed in their homeland – first time in history!” – I guess the Civil War, the Mexican-American War, Pearl Harbor, the first WTC attack, and the Aroostook War don’t count. Even if those events were too old or small scale in Phelps’ own-ancient eyes, Puerto Rican nationalists have waged a low-intensity war with the United States government for the last fifty years. These nationalists attempted to assassinate President Truman in November 1950 after a brutal massacre by United States forces done in Puerto Rico, and soon after (March 1954) wounded five Congresspeople.

The Pentagon has not been set on fire because it was not even completed until 1942 – the beginning of global US hegemony. According to hegemon-scholars like Immanuel Wallerstein, this current period was possibly the only time where an enemy could strike at the United States – our hegemony has been on the decline since the second World War, aided by the quagmires is Korea and Vietnam. Phelps’ fact is true but is essentially a moot point, as sixty years is a blink of an eye even to the newly-found United States.

Finally, lets hit Phelps where it hurts – the Bible. In the piece in question, all the biblical quotes are from Old Testament books of the Bible – Micah and Isaiah. Aside from covertly claiming that ey is another messiah – “the man of wisdom”, tied first to Thomas Brooks, works perfectly when one places that same laurel on Phelps. The Old Testament was a pact between God and Moses, the chosen of the tribles of Israel. This explains why the Old Testament is revered in Jewish theology. However, for the vast majority of Christians, the New Testament is their commitment to God, the Old Testament is inferior (Hebrews explains the reasons for this).

Even the Old Testament forecasts the New Testament – in Jeremiah 31:31-34, the aforementioned prophet says that God eirself said “Known the Lord,” for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them’ says the Lord. ‘For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.’”The New Testament was realized when Jesus died on the cross, and the Old Testament was no longer a valid set of laws and codes for how to live one’s life. For a “supposed” Christian like Phelps, by taking the dictums of the Old Testament as dogma, and espousing such destruction and ruin over the more-New Testament “love they neighbor” policies, one must wonder if ey hasn’t set up a Hell-bound trip (for those who believe in Hell) for eirself.
