The Adventures of Jet – Part 3: Coping With Insignificance
While I was delving online to find any information about The Adventures of Jet for the review of “Muscle”, I remembered that I was sent this album, The Adventures of Jet’s first. As I was so pleased with the latest effort by the band, I decided that I would go back and actually review this piece of history. While “Muscle” finds the band focusing on the theme of drag racing and experimenting with their synthesizers, Part 3 is a much more straight-forward album, using the traditional sounds of indie-rock and the polished sounds of pop. This is not to say that this album is a weak effort, but one can really see the evolution that the band has went through in the four year hiatus between these two albums. If you are looking for a band that richly mixes Treble Charger, Red Hot Valentines, Elvis Costello, and Weezer into a brew that is all their own, The Adventures of Jet is that band. While I would have to give “Muscle” the nod for purchase if one had only money to pick up one of the two AOJ releases, Part 3 really shows off the roots of the band and also gives the listener a context in which they should see “Muscle” as coming. Most notable on Part 3 is probably “The Road”, in which the synthesizer is used in constructing a song that does not sound that far off from much of the pop music of the 1970s.
