The Adventures of Jet – Muscle
Imagine, if you can, a mixture of the rich synthesizers of The Red Hot Valentines and the indie-pop sensibilities of bands like Weezer. This would be the most empirical description of The Adventures of Jet. The lyrics of the disc revolve around driving, specifically drag racing, as well as the tried-and-true lines about gaining and losing the girl of his dreams. However, The Adventures of Jet do not placate themselves with an unabashed focus on the same bouncy synthesizer lines or the played out three-chord riff. On the contrary, each other song brings to the table a much different view of the act, morphing a little more with each track to use all their influences to make something completely new. Also separating the band from the other acts that are popular at this point is their reluctance to put any weak tracks on their disc, ensuring that every track is a tight, thought-out composition that will force listeners to keep playing the CD. This a thematic album that does not have to bow to conventions of a thematic album or the ennui that usually surrounds compositions of that nature. Pick this disc up from Suburban Home Records (http://www.suburbanhomerecords.com) and you will have one of the best driving records out on the market.
