A Planet for Texas - You Can Still Rock In America.

2000 Diaphragm records. 13 Songs from this 4 piece act from Columbus. The CD is a scant 32:45, making each song around 2 and a half minutes long. The cover has boobies on it. Very good guitars that match equally good guitars, making a sound much like Hilljack. A Planet For Texas are a fairly large band, as they know the Forty-Fives (NG Records) and have been reviewed by both Flipside and Maximum Rock N Roll. Crop Rotation/Rules begins with an awesome hair-metal guitar riff, while Stop Looking at My Girlfriend shows the first big, noticeable contribution by Joel J. Gunn, the bassist. Black Label Blues has the most catchy chorus of all the tracks on the CD< with amazing drumming and a flirtatious bass line. One thing that this CD never lacks are completely balls-out rocking guitar solos that put my faith back into the Columbus scene, reeling since the days of Vinnie and the 50-50. T times, A Planet For Texas sounds like AC/DC, the Ataris, or the Offspring, providing fans of all three with an outlet. A Planet For Texas would benefit slightly from the inclusion of a lyric sheet, but for the most part, the lyrics are very clear. Again going back to the success of the band, the album sounds flawless. During a great deal of their songs, A Planet for Texas uses multi-part harmony to their advantage. Red Sweater comes with another amazing set of bass lines and the most memorable chorus of them all: Dont fuck me over. The Convent sees a mild change to a pseudo-NOFX sound. The next noticeable song on the platter is a cover of Crimson and Clover which is much better then the original, with a faster tempo and all around better sound, and the chorus is simply to die for. The title of song 11 is the easiest joke to get on this CD from these fun-loving guys . How do I know that they are fun loving? Pictures of them with squirt guns and nerf rifles show this pretty well. A Planet For Texas is yet another band that is a fan of putting movie quotes in before the songs, but A Planet For Texas actually makes the movie quotes work well with the following songs. If these guys come around your area, I would suggest you see them. Go to http://www.cringe.com/diaphrag, write them at 2480 Indianola Avenue, call at 614-262-3685 or email [email protected].
