Meshing the sound of the late 90’s indie-rock act with the emo stylings so prevalent in today’s musical landscape, Due Wednesday really provide their listeners with a lush, vibrant sound that is devoid of any shortcuts. Each guitar line, drum beat, or uttered vocal is enacted with the utmost care, each part of the song a move on the chessboard. Due Wednesday is not boxed-in by the traditional instrument list nor the typical time signatures that hamper many an aspiring act. “World’s Worst Liar Tells the Truth” provides the dreamy guitars of The Counting Crows, The Wallflowers, Will Hoge and Matthew West while at the same time having a chorus that will rival any pop act in sheer catchiness. I found this review to be one of the harder one’s I’ve completed as every time I tried to sit down and write it while the disc spun, I found myself stopping and just focusing in on the music that DW plays. “Like You Do” is the track that is the one that is totally different from the other three tracks on the discs; instead of sounding like a later-nineties track, the track’s style molds itself after pioneers as the Spin Doctors and Collective Soul while incorporating sharp, cutting guitar lines that would almost always seem out of place on a CD like this, but to my surprise, it makes the track that much more of a gem.
