E.M.T. - EP
This is a disc I was given by a friend who is going out with a member of the band itself, and while there are some definitely interesting pieces to this CD, I would have to say that this is really derivative of other nu-metal bands including Linkin Park and Korn. I was told that there was a lot of shifting in the band, so I will have to see a concert DVD before I write anything truly conclusive about this band. The recording on this disc is pretty good for a somewhat local act (They have played with some famous acts, including Twelve Stones), but even good recording can't stop this CD from blending in with a lot of the radio fodder that is currently on most of the hard rock stations of the day. This is not to say that the material is bad or played badly, but the music just is in a vain, a style that I've heard over and over again in the last few years. What seems to be a possible recourse for the band is if they explore some of the more metallic bands that I can here in them - Fear Factory, Machine Head, etc, and drop the Linkin Park posturing that just too many bands are guilty of following, the posturing that is most prevalent in the "radio" opening track, "Escape". "Escape" sounds as if it was taped off an album of Linkin Park b-sides, and nothing really can recover the track from obscurity. It is only the above-average sound of "Father" and "Falling Down" where people begin to see exactly what E.M.T. is capable, a path that I for one really hope they take over the Linkin Park knockoff idea that they were flirting with on their radio single.
