None Dare Call It Treason – Preparing for the Quiet Wars / 2003 /5 Tracks / Feast of Hate and Fear, 13414 SW 111 Terrace, Miami, FL 33186 / $3

Immediately I started to wonder about this CD when I opened the package that it came in and I saw that this band had put all their information and disc in a random DVD holder. I was just going to assume that someone was innovative and that it would be your run of the mill punk band. I was wrong. Coming from my speakers was your typical death metal music, with Cannibal Corpse-screaming and nothing like the innovative guitar lines that made other death metal bands like Hypocrisy so memorable. Each line of lyric on this disc is obscured into something that no one in their right mind will be able to decipher, and I keep wondering if this is a protective measure or not. For example, take the song “Senor Bueno vs. Mr. Fistface”, which has lyrics like “They know better, but they keep getting in your face. Everything taste the same, when revenge is on your mind. When vengeance has been dealt, the palate opens wide.” Methinks that people who actually can write lyrics are bemoaning the use of the written word at this time, and people who consider themselves musicians must find it a horrible blow that these individuals even decided to pick up an album. Nothing excites me about the band, from the boring lyrics to the tepid guitar riffs and yes, even the screaming is something that has been done to death. Avoid None Dare Call It Treason like a rapid dog, and you will be the better for it.
