The accessibility of this song really made me wonder; all the discussion I had heard about Sigur Ros in the past was that they were a difficult, trying band to truly like. Still, the way that “Saeglopur” opens is nothing less than commendable; where the track begins in a dreamy way, the musical (and rock-influenced) explosions that the band inserts into various intervals of “Saeglopur” shock listeners into a much more involved role. The tracks extended length (a smidgin over 7 minutes) really moves this track away from the pop-influenced beginning it enjoys and casts it into the realm of epic and atmospheric tracks. The sound is full (almost a Spectorian “Wall of Sound” but the chaos is controlled, dominated and controlled into making a compelling track that everyone regardless of musical leanings will like. The presence of the drums on “Saeglopur” may just be the most important of any instrumentation on the track; aside from the nice sound and fill they provide on the track, they are the major source of the tempo and overall sound for the track. The track’s length may remove “Saeglopur” from all but the most adventurous type of indie-rock stations, but the impressiveness of the track truly should be an impetus for all that tune in to purchase “Takk” when it is released.
