The digital kill – Self/Titled
This album goes between the two spectra of what emo: intensely introverted instrumental noodling and full-out screaming, the fury of the music coming through as if from a rainstorm. Each track pans over a number of minutes, creating a soundscape that one is hard pressed to voluntarily leave. Imagine a mixture of the Appleseed Cast and Radiohead, and one will get an inkling of what the digital kill sounds like. However, with all the richness that each track promises, one starts to doze off, much like one would doze if forced to eat an entire chocolate cake. When I was listening to this CD, I had thought I was through the entire CD, just to figure out I was only at the end of the first or second song. This illuminates the one problem that I had with this disc, in that each of the tracks are consistently long, and after a while, all the hard work they have done starts to blend in with the rest of the work, causing one to forget exactly what stood out so well about the track. If the digital kill could work this out, I believe that the band would be revered in a great many circles for tracks worth of classical composers, or at least some progressive rock band like Dream Theatre. Check them out.
