The digital kill – 4 Song EP

The digital kill – 4 Song EP / Self Released / 4 Songs / http://www.thedigitalkill.com / sometimes, fade, child, frail /

Beginning with a very Thom Yorke-ish mode of vocal delivery, “Sometimes” goes off onto a strummy guitar tangent that provides excellent meditation music. One wonders exactly what sort of amazing composition would have been made if these two parts were more inclusive of each other, and not just either singing. By the time that the two parts are added, a definitely out-of-place full drum set starts overshadowing everything in the track besides the Thompostor. Now, I could possibly concede the necessity of the drums, but when the drums are as straight-laced and formulaic as they are at the beginning of the incorporation, there is no excuse. The Digital Kill does happen to fix this problem, with an musical orgasm of sorts, incorporating a more and more rapid and chaotic drum beat that intermeshes perfectly with the equally chaotic guitar. “Fade” starts over where “Sometimes” did, but instead of an acoustic guitar at the beginning, we hear an piano. Still, where “Sometimes” shook me with its innovationist flair, the formula is just repeated for “Fade”, “Child”, and “Frail”. Everything, including the experimentation at the beginning and the average track runtime, is repeated for all four track on this disc. I really would wonder if whether the digital kill would have the audacity to do this with a 10 or so track CD? If you like Radiohead, pick this up, but in any other situation, there are just many other impressive albums out there that far surpass this one.
